PUBLIC ENEMIES

America's Most Wanted...

Note: the spoilers are marked in red.

This movie tells the later stages of the crime career of John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), a famous bank robber. Dillinger was the most wanted bank robber in America in the 1930s.

Personally, I was pretty excited about this movie after reading reviews and comments (and also a TT) on Twitter and IMDb. What I got was a cool and interesting movie which, after all expectations, could have done better.

I'm not insinuating that Johnny didn't do awesome with his acting (he always does). But some technical stuff could have been more professional: the camera left a poor-quality impression and it was shaky in almost every scene.

Also: the characters could've been more developed. The action scenes were very long and could have been shortened. The time of the cut could have been used for further character development.

Also: since the movie was based on a real story, I think it should follow that story better: Baby Face Nelson's death is an example of that fact.

Back to the story: J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) and Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), from the FBI, target Dillinger as the public enemy number 1 in America. We see the investigation and the methods the FBI and the Police used to get bank robbers in 1933 and how the bandits escape, how they live their lives and how they rob.

The film is directed by Michael Mann, who brought us films as Heat, The Insider, and Collateral. Now he adds another great film to his resumé with this one.

This bandit/criminal story is very cool. I DO recommend. Really great.
