THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY

Share
What does she have? What makes her so... unbelievable ? The answer is still unknown. But what we know, is that Mary is a wonderful woman... There's Something about Mary (USA, 1998).

This awesome rom-com by Peter and Bobby Farrely is claimed as "the best comedy of the decade". Some great scenes are an example of this fact: one of them is the "zipper" scene.

SPOILER ALERT! Don't watch the following video if you have not seen the movie yet!

Or, my personal favorite, the hair gel scene...

The movie tells the story of Ted (Ben Stiller). He meets Mary (Cameron Diaz) in High School. He is a nerd and she's a beautiful popular girl. Ted doesn't believe that she even knows his name... but then, unexpectedly, she asks him to the school prom! Clumsily, he accepts and everuthing goes wrong in the prom night: the zipper accident (video above).

Ted never stopped thinking about Mary, though he has never seen her since that night.

13 years later, in 1998, Ted decides to hire an personal detective: Detective Krevoy (Matt Dillon). After some investigation, Krevoy gets everything that Ted needs... but, he falls in love with Mary too.

Lying to Ted, he goes to Miami (where Mary lives) to get this beautiful girl to himself. Ted is crushed when a friend of his tell him that Mary is still in great shape. Ted starts to think that the detective didn't even try to find Mary and decides to go to Miami, too.

After a few complications (laughs) on the road, Ted arrives Miami. Then, the fight starts. Mary tells Ted that she has changed her second name because of a problem with a crazy dude. After a while we realize that Mary's best friend Tucker (Lee Evans) is actually lying to Mary, because he's in love with her too.

SPOILER ALERT! Don't read ahead if you have not seen the movie yet!

In the end we find out that the crazy dude is actually Ted's best friend: Dom, who's married, got kids and can't be closer than 30 miles from her (Chris Elliott). The four of them keep fighting over Mary, until Ted figures out how to solve the entire problem.

He brings Mary's old boyfriend (who's relationship with her failed because of sabotage), thinking that Mary still wants him and that it will solve the problem. However, in the end, Mary stays with Ted and they live happily ever after (as expected).

This movie made me laugh my ass off and has a great combination of the music and the movie. In a lot of scenes we see the a group of people singing. They don't interact with the characters or actively participate of the story: they're just a comedic element.

Really funny. LOVED IT!
